Specialist Support Assistant required in SEN School in Bradford

  • Committed to creating a holistic and low stimulus environment for pupils with ASC
  • Comfortable providing personal care
  • Available for a minimum of 3 days per week

Teaching Personnel are working with a specialist school in Bradford who are seeking a support worker to join their existing team. You will be required to work with learners with Autism Spectrum Conditions, and have an understanding of the low stimulus environment required to meet these needs.

This is a specialist school for children & young people with Communication and Interaction Difficulties aged 3 to 19 years.

The school delivers a broad, balanced curriculum which is developmentally and age appropriate, tailored to individual pupils’ needs. The school environment is calm and predictable, with a specific focus on creating a low arousal learning environment with understand

Intensive Interaction is integral in teaching pupils the fundamentals of effective communication, and is used alongside a range of strategies to facilitate the development social communication and interaction skills. Child-centred planning ensures that the curriculum is interesting, engaging and provides a range of learning opportunities that help foster independence, meaningful and joyful interactions and social communication focused on skills for life.

The school uses a variety of interventions to ensure that the complex needs of the pupils are met and the conditions for learning are appropriately set. These approaches foster trusting relationships which allow pupils to feel safe and develop confidence to meet the challenges of new activities. This also ensures a holistic autism specific approach to positive behaviour support. All children have Behaviour Support Plans and Communication Passports and staff are skilled in supporting pupils to emotionally regulate, fostering a positive sense of self and others.

You must be wiling to provide a holistic approach for pupil within a tailored curriculum and be comfortable supporting pupils with their personal care and hygiene needs.
