Apprentice Learning Support Assistant

The are seeking to recruit an apprentice Learning Support Assistant to join them in September to enhance thier already well established team of support staff. You will work under the guidance of the SENCO and Teaching Staff to support individuals/groups of students, in or out of the classroom. You will be expected to work alongside students with specific learning needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and make academic progress. The post will suit an individual looking to locally complete a Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools or an apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. It is expected that all apprentices will complete minimum of 20% 'off the job' training.

The school is committed too: 

  • Provide access to a balanced and broadly based curriculum, including the National Curriculum and set suitable learning challenges for students.
  • Encourage students with disabilities and or special educational needs to engage in school activities together with all students.
  • Help them to overcome any potential barriers to assessment, learning or wider school activities.
  • Respond to the diverse learning needs of students.

...and therefore key resposibilities required include: 

  • Liaise with the SENCO/ Teaching Staff to identify areas of need and assist in the development of strategies to support all areas of pupil’s learning and development
  • Take an active role in the development and implementation of pupil profiles and EHC plans Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils both within and outside the classroom Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement
  • Liaise with parents and relevant external agencies to ensure best practice for targeted pupils
  • Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment using specialist knowledge and strategies relating to targeted pupils Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and differentiating lessons/work plans as appropriate
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objective
 
The programe is suitable for someone who has a genuine passion to work with children to improve thier academic, social and emotional outcomes. it is ideal for someone who already has some expeirence working with Secondary or students who may additional needs through university placements, voluntary work or prior employment. You will learn how pupils learn and develop, develop strategies to support and enhance the learning experience and how to build positive reltionships and emabrace change.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
