1:1 Learning Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant in Plymouth. This role is ideal for someone with previous experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN) who can think on their feet while ensuring the individual needs of the pupil are met. The position is available from February, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm.

Main Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the selected pupil on a 1:1 basis, providing encouragement and support for tasks set by the class teacher.
  • Shadow the pupil throughout all lessons and potentially during lunchtime, ensuring continuity of support.
  • Proactively prevent and manage potential disruptions during lessons to maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Build productive working relationships with the pupil and establish clear expectations for behavior and learning.
  • Provide positive encouragement, constructive feedback, and praise to reinforce the pupil's efforts and foster self-esteem.
  • Promote inclusion and encourage interaction between the pupil and their peers.

Requirements:

  • Compassion and empathy towards students with diverse needs.
  • A calm and adaptable personality to navigate various situations effectively.
  • High emotional resilience to provide consistent support.
  • Previous experience in nursing, mental health work, or youth work is advantageous.
  • Commitment to working Monday to Friday in a supportive role.

Requirements for Employment:

  • A valid Child Workforce DBS subscribed to the Update Service is essential for clearance.
  • Full assistance provided for DBS application, at a standard cost of £38 plus an annual £13 subscription fee for the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
