Why Teaching Personnel is Celebrating World Teachers Day

Date posted : 05 October 2021

In a calendar full of awareness days, weeks and months, isn't World Teacher’s Day just another? At Teaching Personnel, we don’t think so, and nor does UNESCO.

Every October 5th since 1966, UNESCO has recognised and celebrated the work of teachers and their positive impact on the world. World Teacher’s Day stands apart because of the fundamental significance of what it marks. Education is one of the most powerful forces for change, and teachers are at the vanguard of delivering that change across the world. There will always be disagreement about how education should work, and what should and should not be taught. But the importance of a good education for every child across the world should never be up for debate. Education is the key to a happy and successful life, and one of the biggest factors in escaping poverty, oppression and marginalisation.

This year's theme for World Teacher’s Day is "Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future." In the face of so many global challenges, what can teachers reasonably be expected to do to make meaningful change in the world?  Even in the developed West, a year and a half of unprecedented disruption has left us only too aware of the many rolling crises that we all face. Yet solutions are often much less clear, and quick fixes are no use.   This is exactly why teachers are the perfect people to help us reimagine a better future. Teachers, work in generations. Their job involves taking the longview, instilling knowledge, values and ways of thinking that will persist for the rest of their pupils’ lives. The teachers of today are shaping the minds of the people who, tomorrow, will design and implement the solutions to combat climate change, inequality and instability. At Teaching Personnel, the overwhelming importance of education drives everything we do. We equip teachers with the skills they need to teach effectively and find them work cultivating the next generation in classrooms across the country. We are proud to be supporting a brighter future.  If you are an educator who wants to make a difference to children’s lives and help change the world for the better, click here to find your next role.
