We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed Year 1 Teaching Assistant with strong phonics knowledge and experience to join our friendly and supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within our KS1 provision, supporting pupils at a crucial stage in their early reading and writing development.
Working closely with the class teacher, you will help deliver high-quality phonics sessions, provide targeted support to individuals and small groups, and contribute to creating a positive, engaging and nurturing learning environment.
Location: Burnley
Contract: Full-time
Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour
Start Date: Monday 23rd February 2026
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of daily phonics sessions using [Insert Programme e.g., Little Wandle, Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds]
- Provide one-to-one or small group intervention to help pupils make accelerated progress in reading and phonics
- Assist the Year 1 teacher in delivering engaging, age-appropriate lessons across the curriculum
- Help create a calm, positive and structured classroom environment
- Monitor pupils’ progress and contribute to assessment and planning
- Support pupils’ social, emotional and academic development
- Foster positive relationships with children, staff and parents
About You
We are seeking someone who:
- Has strong, hands-on phonics experience (essential)
- Is passionate about early literacy and supporting children’s learning
- Has previous experience working in KS1 or EYFS (desirable)
- Is patient, proactive and confident in managing groups
- Communicates clearly and works well as part of a team
- Is enthusiastic, motivated and eager to contribute to school life
- Is open to ongoing training and CPD opportunities
