Year 1 Teaching Assistant
Job description
Are you a nurturing, enthusiastic and motivated Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in a Year 1 classroom? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our friendly and vibrant school, supporting our children as they take exciting steps through Key Stage 1.
As our Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in the classroom—working closely with the class teacher to support high‑quality learning and contribute to a warm, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
Location: Burnley
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: Easter start
Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and activities.
- Provide individual and small‑group support to help children progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Assist in creating a calm, organised and stimulating classroom environment.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help children build independence and confidence.
- Work collaboratively with staff to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional needs.
- Contribute to general classroom tasks, preparation of materials, and daily routines.

- Is caring, approachable, and passionate about supporting young children.
- Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff and pupils.
- Is patient, proactive, and warm‑natured.
- Can follow direction from the class teacher while also showing initiative.
- Has experience working with children (school experience is desirable but not essential).
- Is committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of all pupils.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
