Job description

We are looking for a passionate and resilient Alternative Provision (AP) Tutor to deliver 1:1 and small-group tuition for pupils who are not currently accessing mainstream education. This includes students with behavioural challenges, anxiety, SEN needs, or school refusers.

Your role will be to engage and inspire young people through structured, supportive learning sessions in subjects such as English, Maths, and Science, helping them progress academically and build confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalised lessons to pupils outside of a school setting (home, library, or other agreed locations).

  • Support students in core subjects and prepare them for re-engagement with education or exams.

  • Develop positive, trusting relationships to support emotional wellbeing and learning.

  • Liaise with schools, parents/carers, and Local Authority staff to monitor progress and adapt support plans.

  • Follow safeguarding and behaviour management procedures.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with pupils in an Alternative Provision, PRU, or similar setting.

  • QTS, QTLS, or significant relevant experience in tutoring or teaching.

  • Excellent classroom management and the ability to build rapport quickly.

  • Up-to-date Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one).

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
