You could be supporting learners who need help catching up with their studies, rebuilding confidence after time away from school, preparing for GCSEs or accessing education through alternative provision.

Teaching sessions may be arranged in pupils' homes, schools or specialist learning environments.

Your Role

As a 1:1 Tutor, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating individual learning plans that reflect each pupil's needs and abilities.
  • Delivering engaging lessons to improve subject knowledge and academic confidence.
  • Preparing appropriate teaching materials and learning activities.
  • Identifying learning barriers and adapting sessions accordingly.
  • Monitoring progress and providing constructive feedback.
  • Developing pupils' motivation, independence and study skills.
  • Supporting learners with additional, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Building positive working relationships with parents, schools and other professionals.
  • Maintaining safeguarding standards and ensuring pupils' wellbeing.

Subjects and Learning Areas

We are interested in tutors who can provide tuition in:

  • Primary English, Maths and Reading.
  • Secondary English, Maths and Science.
  • GCSE subjects and examination preparation.
  • Functional Skills, Literacy and Numeracy.
  • History, Geography and Humanities.
  • Computing and Modern Foreign Languages.
  • SEND and individual learning support.
  • Home Education and Alternative Provision.

Candidate Requirements

To join our tutoring team, you should have:

  • At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience in the UK.
  • Experience working with primary or secondary-aged children.
  • Confidence in planning and delivering structured lessons.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective organisational and time-management abilities.
  • A flexible, patient and encouraging approach.
  • The ability to travel to placements across Kettering and nearby areas.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

QTS, PGCE or an equivalent teaching qualification is desirable, but not essential.

Supporting Children with SEND

Experience working with pupils with any of the following needs would be an advantage:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Dyslexia and Dyspraxia.
  • Speech, language and communication needs.
  • Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA).

What You Can Expect From Us

  • Flexible assignments based on your availability.
  • Competitive weekly rates of pay.
  • Opportunities across home tuition, schools and alternative provision.
  • Potential for ongoing work and permanent opportunities.
  • Rewarding opportunities to help children develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Take the Next Step!

If you are passionate about education and enjoy helping young people discover their strengths, overcome difficulties and achieve their goals, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today and become part of TP Tutors, helping children across Kettering access the support and encouragement they need to succeed.

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

TP Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All educators are subject to safeguarding checks in line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). This may also include an online search as part of our safer recruitment process.

All educators must complete our annual tuition training programme, covering Safeguarding, Prevent Duty, KCSIE, Allergy Awareness, and Child-on-Child Abuse Awareness. Tutors must also hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid Child-only Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service, with full guidance provided.

Many pupils supported by TP Tutors require tailored educational provision. Tutors should be confident in building positive relationships, adapting their approach to meet individual needs, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and safeguarding at all times. Tutors must also be able to effectively plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet the learner’s individual needs, monitor progress, and adapt teaching strategies to support positive outcomes.
