Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate LAC Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to Looked After Children (LAC) across the Hartlepool area. You will play a vital role in helping young people in care re-engage with education, build confidence, and achieve their potential in a nurturing, trauma-informed environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored tuition in English, Maths, and/or other core subjects to LAC students (KS1–KS4)

  • Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs, EHCPs, and PEP targets

  • Build strong, positive relationships with young people, fostering trust and engagement

  • Provide regular feedback and progress reports to support multi-agency planning

  • Travel to home placements, foster homes, or neutral community locations for sessions

Essential Criteria:

  • Teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS) or relevant tutoring/mentoring experience

  • Strong understanding of the barriers facing LAC and vulnerable learners

  • Excellent communication, patience, and behaviour management skills

  • Ability to work independently, flexibly, and with professional integrity

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
