Are you someone who adores working with young people, and have experience in supporting special needs such as Autism?

The School

We work with a special needs school in the Oldham area which provides an adapted education and sensory support to students aged 11-19 who are statemented.

Part of a multi-academy trust, the school boasts state of the art facilities which meet the individual requirements of the students, providing opportunity for them to explore their interests. The school also has an on site specialist provision for students on the Autism Spectrum, and require specific sensory support.

The school offers an opportunity for educational and social development for the students, which we need you to be a part of.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant your main responsibilities are to support your assigned student in the classroom with all their needs such as; understanding instruction, interaction, inclusion, emotional support, moving and handling and personal care. 

You may support students in the main special needs school or in the sensory support provision working with students with Autism. Other needs may include downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, global development delay and more. Due to the nature of these needs, some students may have delayed communication development and use Picture card exchange, or sign language to communicate. 

You will be required to work Monday to Friday 8.30am-3.30pm on a fixed term contract - due to the nature of the role there is potential for extension for an exceedingly good candidate.

You MUST have a child workforce only DBS, which is registered to the update service.

You

The appropriate experience for this role would be from a childcare or support work background however we are open to applications from all relevant experience.
You must be very caring and patient but also resilient in dealing with challenging behaviours and able to think on your feet.
No qualifications required although would be preferred.
