Teaching Assistant – Independent Specialist School

Location: Dibden, Southampton

Position: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Hourly Rate: £13.75

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a well-established independent specialist school in Dibden, Southampton. This school supports pupils aged 8 to 16 with a range of complex needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH).

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, inclusive education within a nurturing and structured learning environment. This role is ideally suited to individuals who are committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people and who thrive in a dynamic and sometimes challenging setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils’ academic and personal development under the guidance of the class teacher and wider school team

  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation in line with the school’s ethos

  • Working on a one-to-one or small group basis with pupils, tailoring support to individual needs

  • Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and therapeutic interventions

  • Maintaining a safe, engaging, and respectful learning environment for all pupils

Candidate Requirements:

  • A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional and complex needs

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach, with a strong sense of empathy

  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

  • Previous experience in an SEN/SEMH setting is advantageous, though not essential

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
