Mental Health and Pupil Well-Being Teaching Assistant

Do you have experience of supporting pupils with Social Emotional Mental Health needs?

Can you help and deliver education support to children with challenging behaviour?

Would you like to help support pupils well-being on their return to school?

School can have a hugely positive impact on a child's life, and so this last year in and out of lockdown has not been easy for students.  Some pupils may feel anxious about returning to school, and stressed about how it has affected their learning. Other students may not have had any routine whilst working from home and so coming back into school will find it hard to re-adjust back into a routine and have developed behavioural needs. 

Teaching Personnel are seeking a Mental Health and Pupil Well-Being Teaching Assistant to join a large Secondary school in Newport.

This role is to begin ASAP and work with the pupils in the the schools additional learning needs provision. 

We are seeking someone that is able to commit to this role until at least the end of the academic year.  There may be an opportunity for the right candidate to join the school on a contract pending a review in July.

GBP300 - GBP350 weekly pay - PAYE with no umbrella fees!

What does a Pupil Well-Being Assistant do?

You will be joining a large support team that excel in driving pupils learning and development. This department plays a key role in supporting the pupils well-being with special education needs and learning difficulties within the school.

You'll be kept busy, working across Key Stage 3, and 4. Your day will be varied, supporting children in the classroom to manage their own behaviour and emotions, engage with tasks set by the class teacher, and reach their potential.

The role requires you to work within the mainstream classroom as well as the additional needs hub.  The school are looking for someone to understand just how that can affects children's well-being and are able to support that as well as academics support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting the safeguarding and well-being of all pupils
  • Providing holistic behaviour support
  • Delivering 1:1 well-being interventions and ensuring pupils mental health is looked after
  • Developing confidence and promoting positive peer interaction
  • Providing opportunities for academic, social and emotional development within a safe and secure learning environment

Who are we looking for?

You'll by dynamic, resilient, and flexible; dedicated to supporting pupils to achieve and progress!

You will ideally have...

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant  or experience supporting individuals with additional needs, in particular; mental health, behaviour, emotional, social, ASD, and co-morbid conditions
  • Qualified in Thrive, Team Teach, ELSA, or MAPA

However the above are only desirable criteria, we are open to accepting positions from all those interested.

  • Youth and Community Work
  • Criminology and Sociology
  • Counselling
  • Social Work
