Teaching Assistant

A specialist independent SEN School based in the South Derbyshire area, are looking for Teaching Assistants on a full time basis in September 2020.

The school specialises in supporting students with complex learning needs and low functioning Autism, aged between 8 - 19 years old. Many of the students also present with complex mental health needs and challenging behaviour. The school also provides residential support for pupils who require it.

The school also hugely benefit from having an inhouse Therapy team, consisting of Speech and Language Therapists, an Occupational Therapist and Psychiatrist to support students on a day to day basis with specialist therapeutic interventions. The school is based in the beautiful rural area of South derbyshire and benefits from outstanding countryside views and lots of open space for the children to use.

The curriculum is tailored to each individual child on a acse by case basis with a core focus of supporting pupils to develop their communcatio, social skills and choice making.

The ideal candidate for this school will be:

• Someone with extensive experience supporting individuals on the Autistic spectrum, whether this is in a care or educational environment
• Experience dealing with extremely challenging behaviour and a good working knowledge of the underlying triggers for this behaviour
• Experienced using Makaton, PECS or other communication aids
• Proven track record of successfully supporting individuals with communication, social skills and independent skills
• Someone who keeps the wellbeing and safety of the young people at the forefront of their work, at all times
• Able to liaise professionally with multi-disciplinary teams
• Able to follow Individual Education Plans, Behaviour and Communication plans as required
