SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: St Albans
Salary: £85 – £100 per day (dependent on experience)
Job Type: Full-time, Term Time Only (Monday–Friday)
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (may vary by up to 45 minutes)

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in St Albans
In this role, you will support children with special educational needs both inside and outside the classroom, helping to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEN
  • Support learning activities during lessons and at break/lunchtimes
  • Assist the class teacher with daily classroom tasks
  • Help maintain a safe, organised, and inclusive learning environment
  • Promote a positive attitude and model appropriate behaviour for all pupils

Who We’re Looking For

Experience working in a school setting is not required — we welcome applicants from all backgrounds who have a passion for supporting children and young people.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEN (desirable, not essential)
  • Be committed, patient, and reliable
  • Show initiative and a proactive attitude
  • Hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service)
  • Have permanent UK residency (essential)

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (can be arranged via Teaching Personnel)
  • Two most recent professional references (covering the last 24 months)
  • Overseas Police Check (if applicable – for candidates who have lived outside the UK for 6+ months within the last 5 years)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
