Job description

Teaching Assistant

Location: NP16
Start: ASAP / January
Pay: £89.38 per day

Teaching Personnel are looking for a proactive and confident Teaching Assistant to support an SRB (Specialist Resource Base) in the NP16 area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with children who require a more personalised and specialist approach to their learning.

You will join a team dedicated to supporting pupils with a wide range of complex Additional Learning Needs, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and sensory needs. The environment is highly nurturing, structured and adapted to provide pupils with the consistency, care and specialist strategies they require.

About the Role

Your role will involve:

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups within the SRB setting.
  • Using your initiative to adapt activities, communication and learning methods to each pupil’s individual needs.
  • Providing calm, patient and structured support, helping pupils to feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
  • Working alongside teachers and other specialists to implement sensory strategies, communication aids and personalised learning plans.
  • Promoting independence, emotional regulation and positive engagement throughout the school day.
  • Assisting with physical, sensory or personal care routines where required.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Proactive and able to think on their feet in a busy, specialist environment.
  • Comfortable using initiative without needing constant direction.
  • Compassionate, patient and confident supporting pupils with complex ALN/SEN.
  • Emotionally resilient and able to remain calm when pupils become dysregulated.
  • Keen to learn specialist approaches used in ASD, SLD and PMLD settings.
  • A strong communicator, able to build trust and support meaningful progress.
  • Available full-time and committed to consistent, long-term work.

Experience in SEN, care work, ALN, youth work or SRB settings is beneficial — but a positive mindset, compassion and willingness to learn are just as important.

What Teaching Personnel can offer:

  • Competitive daily rate starting at £89.38.
  • Free access to SEN & behaviour training through our CPD Academy.
  • A dedicated consultant supporting you throughout your journey.
  • Opportunities to secure long-term or permanent work.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to pupils who need consistent, specialist support.

If you are passionate about supporting children with complex needs and want to work in a highly rewarding specialist environment, we would love to hear from you.
