This rewarding opportunity would suit individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs. Whether your experience comes from education, care, healthcare, support work, youth work, residential care, or personal experience supporting a family member with SEND, we would love to hear from you.

If you're looking for a career where every day brings the opportunity to make a genuine difference to a young person's life, this could be the perfect role for you.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, helping them access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will help create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

This is an incredibly rewarding role that requires patience, resilience, and a genuine commitment to supporting children with complex needs.

  • Patient, caring, and empathetic
  • Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Confident in building positive relationships with young people
  • Flexible and willing to support students across a range of activities
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Passionate about helping children with additional needs reach their full potential

Experience We Welcome

Applications are encouraged from candidates with experience in:

  • SEND support
  • Teaching Assistant roles
  • Care or support work
  • Residential care
  • Healthcare settings
  • Youth work
  • Mental health support
  • Behaviour support
  • Family or personal experience supporting someone with SEND

While previous school-based experience is beneficial, it is not essential. Candidates with transferable skills, a positive attitude, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people are encouraged to apply.

Important Information

This specialist school supports students with a wide range of additional needs. To ensure applicants have a full understanding of the role, please note:

  • Students may occasionally display behaviours that challenge, including incidents involving hitting, kicking, scratching, biting, or throwing objects.
  • The role may involve positive handling and physical intervention when necessary to maintain the safety of students and staff. Full training will be provided.
  • Some students require personal care support, including toileting, changing, feeding, and assistance with daily living activities.
  • The role may involve supporting students during swimming sessions, therefore applicants should be comfortable entering the water when required.
