Teacher of History with Ancient History

A thriving Multi Academy Trust is looking to appoint committed and outstanding History teachers to join their team from 19/02/2018 or Easter. The ability to teach Ancient History would be considered an advantage and there may be opportunities for career development in this area.

The person appointed will be expected to teach across the full age and ability range and to play a part, together with other colleagues, in the continuing development of the department. One of the department's strengths is its strong sense of teamwork whereby all members feel able to contribute to the development of the department. The school is committed to ensuring that all members of the History Department are able to have access to quality CPD. Their devolved budget allows us to be creative in how we achieve this.

Applications are welcome from either an NQT or someone wishing to further develop their career, with possible development opportunities to take on TLR responsibilities.

History is a very popular option at GCSE with fourteen groups in Years 10 and 11 following the OCR B SHP syllabus. At AS/A Level the AQA specification is offered with students following components on Tudor England, Weimar and Nazi Germany and a non-examined assessment on Stuart England. The department also offers Ancient History at AS/A2 and an ability to teach it would be a definite advantage.

There are currently seven groups studying History at Advanced Level in the Sixth Form and four studying Ancient History/Classical Civilisation. Last year 100% of the candidates achieved A*-C grades at A2 in History and Classical Civilisation, with 76% achieving A*-B. The school are one of the best performing history departments of any Sixth Form colleges in Hampshire. At GCSE in 2017 the A*-C pass rate was 84%. This puts us in the top 0.5% of schools in the country in terms of progress made by pupils. The previous year it was 80% and in 2016 it was 81%. GCSE is, of course, a major focus and the department is determined to maintain its outstanding performance of recent years.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
