Inspire and Support as a Primary ALN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and enthusiastic ALN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Penarth. This rewarding full-time position offers an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children by supporting their educational, emotional, and social development.
Role Overview:
Working alongside the class teacher and ALNCo (Additional Learning Needs Coordinator), you will provide individualised and small-group support to pupils with a range of needs including:
- Learning difficulties
- Communication and interaction needs
- Sensory or physical needs
- Social, emotional, or behavioural challenges
You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and thrive in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver targeted support within and outside the classroom
• Assist with developing literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills
• Promote pupil well-being, independence, and inclusion
• Collaborate closely with teachers and the ALNCo to deliver tailored strategies
• Prepare resources and assist in lesson planning
• Maintain records and contribute to progress reviews
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
We’re Looking for Someone Who:
• Has experience working with children in a school or childcare setting (ALN experience desirable but not essential)
• Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a child-centred approach
• Communicates clearly and works well in a team
• Is flexible, dependable, and committed to inclusive education
• Holds relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, TA qualifications — desirable but not required)
• Understands safeguarding and child protection responsibilities

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
