Welsh-Speaking ALN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time – Barry

Location: Barry, Vale of Glamorgan
Position: Teaching Assistant (1:1 ALN Support)
Start Date: September 2025
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: £89.38 per day

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a fluent Welsh-speaking Teaching Assistant on behalf of a friendly and inclusive primary school in Barry. This full-time position is to support a young pupil with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) on a 1:1 basis, starting in September and continuing for the full academic year.

The Role:

You will work closely with a KS2 pupil who requires consistent, calm, and structured support throughout the school day. The child has a diagnosis of ASD and benefits from a familiar routine, positive reinforcement, and clear communication. The ability to communicate fluently in Welsh is essential, as this is a Welsh-medium school and the child learns and interacts primarily through the Welsh language.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support in line with the pupil’s Individual Development Plan (IDP)
  • Assist with classroom tasks and encourage engagement in learning activities
  • Support emotional regulation and promote social interaction
  • Liaise with the class teacher, ALNCo, and outside agencies to ensure consistent support
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Fluent in Welsh (spoken and written) – essential
  • Previous experience supporting children, particularly with ALN or behavioural needs
  • Patient, empathetic, and reliable
  • Confident in behaviour management and building relationships
  • DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel
  • Fully available Monday to Friday and committed for the full academic year
