About the Role

Do you have a passion for working with young people and helping them make the most of their education?
Teaching Personnel is seeking a Support Mentor to join one of our partner secondary schools in the Monmouthshire area.

As a Support Mentor, you’ll play a vital role in building strong, positive relationships with students—acting as a trusted guide and communicator to ensure they feel understood and supported. You’ll work closely with pupils who need additional help to stay focused, engaged, and motivated in lessons. By being a positive role model, you’ll help them overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to reach their full potential. Some students may simply need extra encouragement to thrive in the classroom.

In this role, you’ll provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges. You’ll work with students who may find traditional classroom settings difficult, offering consistent emotional and academic support throughout the school day.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people while gaining valuable experience and insight for a future career in education.

Requirements

As you will be supporting young people, we will require applicants which have experience in some capacity. For example, if you have a background in Sports, Care or Youth Support and are looking to transfer your skills!

The ideal candidate will also require the following: (We can help you obtain the below as part of the registration process)

-          Education Workforce Regulation registration (EWC)

-         Aged 18 and over

-          Level 2 as a minimum for Safeguarding for Children and vulnerable people

-          2 professional based references which cover a 24-month period (or equivalent)

What would the onboarding process look like?

-          Apply by attaching a CV for consideration

-          Shortlisting will take place after the application being submitted

-          A telephone call will be provided to talk through more detail on the role

-          If happy to proceed, you will then be invited in for an interview
