Supply Teacher

Job description

Looking ahead to post February half term, where schools will be reopening, there is likely to be a high demand for supply teachers. Schools are preparing to mass test students upon return as well as prepare for an influx of absences to continue as they reopen. This will be compounded by the number of pre-planned absences within secondary schools and those other reactive requirements. If you are a qualified teacher of any experience level, including newly qualified and have found yourself available for work from February onwards, then please apply now for immediate consideration.

The role of a supply teacher is to cover lessons in the absence of the classroom teacher ensuring students remain on task and engaged. The work is already planned and will be marked by the permanent class teacher providing flexibility for the supply teacher. There is a requirement to be adaptable and flexible in your nature as a supply teacher as plans can sometimes change last minute. Taking on supply work can be very beneficial as this can often lead to securing longer term work.

Key aspects of the supply teacher role:

  • Day to day pay GBP95 - GBP130 per day depending on school and subject specialism
  • Fully flexible for part time, temporary and full-time positions
  • Options to teach subject specialism or offer general cover
  • Day to day assignments, short – medium term of around 1 – 3 weeks and also longer-term opportunities

During the first term of this academic year, schools in the South Manchester area found themselves inundated with cover requirements given the increase in absences within school. This is expected to be similar as schools reopen following the February half term. If you are a teacher available on a temporary or flexible basis looking to teach and cover in schools in the South Manchester area then apply now. There is the opportunity to teach in a variety of secondary schools gaining experience of different school environments, networking with different schools professionals and getting a feel for a variety of behaviour strategies and school policies. This role provides flexibility in being able to teach on days you are available but also a chance to test out different schools in the local area.

These schools are easily accessible via the M60 ring road for those teachers who drive. For those on public transport, there are plenty of schools which are accessible via public transport with buses servicing schools as well as the local metrolink running from Altrincham to the city centre of Manchester.

If you are interested in being a supply teacher then apply now with your latest CV. If you would like to discuss the teaching opportunities and schools available, then contact Teaching Personnel’s Manchester South Secondary branch for more information.
