Supply Teacher

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

The head of behaviour and inclusion in a RCT secondary school is looking to appoint two cover supervisors to work in the school from January until the end of the academic year. Having worked on a day by day supply basis through external agencies, the school has noticed the negative impact the inconsistency of staff and behaviour management has had on the pupils learning. They want recognisable and consistent new faces to join their ambitious faculty for the whole school year.

The role

  • Full time school hours (Monday – Friday 8:30-15:30)

  • Be able to facilitate lessons already prepared by class teacher

  • From January 12th – End of school year

  • Secondary school teaching ages 11-16

  • Based at one school as the main support for course cover, internal sickness and trips. The school is in the RCT area and will be disclosed to shortlisted applicants.

  • GBP60-GBP75 a day

  • No lesson planning required

In summary, the school is looking for two cover supervisors who can work full time until the end of July 2020, with a view of being taken onto permanent contract. Candidates must have excellent classroom management and be able to prevent disruptive pupils from affecting the rest of the class.

This opportunity is due to the school implementing a strong behavioural ethos under a new headship and SLT team. The progress the school has made from last year is very impressive, however the new reputation and pride taken into driving a positive and inclusive vision for all to learn is at the core of the leadership team. They are very protective over their vision for the school and as a result want staff who will also share their passion and commitment to upholding this.

In the past, former teaching and support staff who have been introduced to the school via Teaching Personnel have been offered permanent contracts, or have been able to use the year to gain valuable experience before enrolling onto a PGCE.

Exciting facts  about the school

  • Staff welfare is high on their list of priorities – the school has a very low turnover of staff, so this is a very rare opportunity to join an incredibly innovative and passionate team

  • They have recently moved into a new state of the art facility which boasts 4G sports pitches, recording and drama studios, photography, surplus classrooms, interactive learning spaces and communal areas that are second to none

  • Each department has their own staffroom and there are surplus classrooms which can be utilized for any last minute emergencies

  • The school really supports candidates who are furthering their education

  • Our staff have integrated well into school life and have not only assisted with extra curricular clubs, but have launched their own. This year, a member of our agency has set up their own photography club in the school

Essentials

Excellent behaviour management- The behaviour in the school has seen a massive improvement, however, as with any comprehensive school, there are times pupils will act up, particularly to an unfamiliar face. The school is looking to appoint so that they can eradicate last minute supply staff and have new staples to their behaviour and support team.

Ability to improvise and remain calm – as a cover supervisor, you will have a schedule prepared in advance, however, there will be last minute sicknesses and cover demands which means you may need to work across a broad range of subjects. Although you are not expected to be an expert, you will need to confidently manage behaviour and productivity so that pupils do not waste the hour.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later
