Are you a recent university graduate looking to gain classroom experience before teacher training? Are you an unqualified teacher eager to build your confidence in a secondary school environment? Or perhaps you're an experienced teacher looking for a rewarding role with less planning, marking, and administrative responsibility?

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Cover Supervisor for a highly regarded secondary school in Alton for a September start. This is an excellent opportunity to join a school with a strong community ethos, a commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, and a focus on preparing students for success both inside and outside the classroom. The school places a strong emphasis on student development, careers education, enrichment opportunities, and creating a positive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Why Become a Cover Supervisor?

A Cover Supervisor role offers invaluable classroom experience and is one of the most popular routes into teaching. You'll gain practical experience managing classes and supporting students, without the additional workload associated with a full teaching position.

This role is ideal for:

  • Graduates considering a career in teaching
  • Aspiring teachers preparing for a PGCE, SCITT or School Direct programme
  • Unqualified teachers seeking school-based experience
  • Experienced teachers looking for a role with greater flexibility and fewer responsibilities

  • Those wanting to make a positive impact on young people's education

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning across the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Maintaining a focused, positive, and productive learning environment
  • Supporting students to remain engaged and achieve lesson objectives
  • Building strong relationships with students and staff
  • Providing additional support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and additional learning needs where required

No lesson planning or marking is required, allowing you to focus on supporting learning and developing your classroom management skills.

About the School

This successful Alton secondary school is known for its commitment to developing well-rounded students through a broad curriculum, extensive extracurricular opportunities, and a strong focus on personal development. Students benefit from an environment that encourages participation, achievement, and respect, with opportunities ranging from careers education and work experience to student leadership and enrichment activities.

The school takes pride in fostering a supportive atmosphere where students are encouraged to develop confidence, independence, and lifelong learning skills.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience working with secondary-aged students
  • Are confident and adaptable in a classroom setting
  • Have experience supporting SEN students or additional learning needs
  • Possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Are enthusiastic about working with young people
  • Can remain calm, organised, and professional

Working Hours & Benefits

  • Full-time opportunities available Monday to Friday
  • Term-time only working pattern
  • 12.07% holiday pay
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated Teaching Personnel consultant
  • Access to professional development and training opportunities
  • Excellent experience for those considering teacher training
  • Opportunity to work in a supportive and welcoming school environment
