Speech and Language Support

We are currently looking to recruit several dedicated and compassionate SALT (Speech and Language Therapy) Support Assistants to join our team and work within welcoming and supportive primary schools across Tameside. These are long-term roles designed to provide consistency for pupils, making them ideal for candidates who are looking to settle into one school environment.

As we move through the Autumn Term, schools are keen to have the right support in place as soon as possible. The role involves delivering engaging, targeted interventions for pupils with speech and language needs, as well as offering general classroom support. With the need for SEN support rising in schools, the demand for this role across schools in Tameside is becoming frequent.

Location: Tameside SK13

Job Type: Full-time, 8.30am-3.30pm (long-term opportunity)

Salary: £13.75- £14.50 per hour

Start date: Monday 1st December 2025

What Do the Roles Entail?:

  • Work in partnership with the Class Teacher and SENCO to implement tailored learning strategies, based on guidance from external specialists.
  • Support the delivery of speech and language, as well as reading interventions, using individual learning plans to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
  • Assist pupils day-to-day within the classroom to help them engage with learning and reach their full potential in an inclusive setting.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, in a classroom or small group setting.
  • A patient person to be able to speak to children calmly and support their needs.
  • Contribute to the nurturing environment within the school.
  • To positively support children to make progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Experience of using resources and strategies used to support language and communication e.g Blank Levbel Questioning, Keys to Communication etc.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
