SEND Support Assistant

Are you motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners, supporting both their academic growth and personal development? We are currently looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work with Key Stage 2 pupils in the Tameside area who require additional learning support.

Location: Tameside

Job Type: Full-time, 8.15am-3.30pm (long-term opportunity)

Salary: £13.75- £14.50 per hour

Start date: Monday 3rd November 2025

Encouraging and supportive primary schools in the Tameside area are currently looking to recruit a dedicated and talented individual for the role of SEND Support Assistant. This is to provide engaging and exciting educational experiences to pupils across KS2. You will be working in close partnership with Parents and the dedicated staff team to make a difference to the lives of all their children, no matter the ability, background or learning differences .

What Does the Role Entail?:

  • In this role, you will build positive connections with pupils who have a variety of special educational needs and disabilities, promoting positive behaviour and decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with the Class Teacher and SENCO to implement and adjust learning approaches, ensuring a safe, inclusive environment that aligns with guidance from external professionals.
  • Adapt and respond to the evolving and sometimes unexpected needs of SEND pupils throughout the school day.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons and activities.
  • Take the lead on small group or one-to-one interventions to help pupils deepen their understanding and support their learning progress.
  • Work alongside the teacher to plan, evaluate, and document pupil development and achievements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience supporting SEND pupils in either classroom or small group environments (one-to-one experience is preferred but not mandatory).
  • A calm, compassionate, and consistent manner, paired with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to stay resilient and flexible in response to the evolving needs of children throughout the day.
  • Sound knowledge of the KS2 curriculum (experience with Year 5/6 SATs and Year 4 Times Table Check preparation is a plus, but not required).
  • Appropriate qualifications, such as Level 2 or Level 3 certifications.
  • An up-to-date DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
