Specialist Support Assistant – Bridgend

 

The Headteacher of our partner school in Bridgend have asked us to support them with their recruitment process to recruit Specialist Support Assistants (SSA) to join their school from September for the academic year. The successful Special Support Assistant will have the opportunity to go onto a permanent contract following a positive probation period.

 

Start Date: 2nd June 2025

Rate: £13.75 per hour

Contract: Temporary to Permanent

Full Time: Monday to Friday

Working hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm

 

As a Specialist Support Assistant, you will work within a range of classes supporting learners ages 3-19 with a range of needs including Autism, Physical Disabilities, Complex Needs, Speech and Language Needs, and Challenging Behaviour. Whether you have experience of this within your personal or professional life – we are considering applications from all walks of life.

 

The role of the Specialist Support Assistant (SSA) is to be:

  • A committed member of a supportive team under the direction of the class teacher/senior staff.
  • To provide support in addressing the needs of pupils who require help to overcome barriers to learning.
  • To provide in class support to enable the pupils to fully partake in the curriculum.

 

The Responsibilities of the Specialist Support Assistant (SSA) are to:

  • Work 1:1 or in groups with pupils on defined curriculum activities and deliver pre-prepared learning programmes
  • Attend to the personal needs of pupils and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, emergency aid, medical support and welfare needs.
  • Be willing to undertake all aspects of school curriculum / activities e.g. Rebound therapy, swimming, and hydrotherapy.
  • Manage learner behaviour and reduce challenging behaviour
  • Support with general classroom duties i.e., Prepare classes for lesson, tidying, washing up clear away afterwards and creating displays.
  • Supervise pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school, breaks and lunch times and moving around the school.
  • Undertake basic record keeping as required and contribute to the assessment of pupils updating assessment documents and providing evidence of individual targets.
  • Be aware of and comply with all school policies and procedures. Also be aware of all policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

 

The school are looking to appoint before the term finishes by 28th May 2025. Our SEN team will be shortlisting and interviewing the next few weeks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
