Special Needs Teaching Assistant - Bradford

Teaching Personnel are working with a Special Needs School in Bradford who are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join their existing team this term. This is a full time role, on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to apply for a permanent role within the school following a successful probationary period.

Our client is situated in Girlington, giving easy access by car, with additional links via public transport from local areas. The school provides a differentiated curriculum for pupils aged 2-19 with a range of complex needs including Autism Spectrum Conditions, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, Speech, Language and Communication Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs.

The successful applicant will have experience of supporting pupils with additional learning needs (Autism, PMLD, and SEMH) and will have the confidence to support specific pupils with personal care. Additional training in Team Teach, PECs, Intensive Interaction and/or Makaton is also desirable, although not essential as this training can be provided.

You will be dedicated to providing holistic support to pupils to ensure both academic and personal progress across the curriculum. You will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with a multi-disciplinary team including an on-site medical team, Educational Psychologists and specialist teachers, as well as communicating with parents/guardians. An understanding of implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) is essential.

Direct experience working with children within a specialist setting would be beneficial, but we also welcome applications from individuals with experience in:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Youth Work
  • Play Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Counselling
  • Social Work

We will also consider applications from individuals who have held previous roles as a Care Assistant or Support Worker, as well as those with personal experience of caring for individuals with additional learning needs.

Working with Teaching Personnel, you will have exclusive access to training through our CPD academy, including training delivered by Leeds Trinity University. You will work closely with a personal consultant, dedicated to supporting you to find your ideal role.
