Are you looking for a rewarding role supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEND) in a school in Bristol? We are recruiting SEND Pastoral Support Workers / SEND Teaching Assistants to join welcoming, supportive schools across the Bristol area. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone passionate about helping young people with Autism, SEMH, ADHD, communication needs and behavioural challenges to thrive.

If you have experience in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, behaviour support, or working with young people, this role is a fantastic way to transfer your skills into a meaningful career in education.


Key Responsibilities (SEND Pastoral & TA Duties)

  • Provide pastoral and emotional support to pupils with SEND needs
  • Support students 1:1 and in small groups with confidence, behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Assist teachers with personalised learning, behaviour strategies and structured routines
  • Help create a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported
  • Use initiative, stay proactive, and adapt quickly in a fast‑paced SEND setting
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who need consistency and care
  • Promote resilience, independence and positive behaviour choices

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in youth mentoring, sports coaching, behaviour support, or supporting young people
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond with empathy
  • A proactive, adaptable and positive working style
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Experience in SEND schools, pastoral work or SEN support
  • Understanding of Autism, SEMH, trauma‑informed approaches or behaviour management
  • Experience planning or leading activities/sessions
  • Driver with access to a car (preferred but not essential)
  • Additional training such as safeguarding or first aid
