Job Description

We seek a dedicated Special Educational Needs Tutor to provide tailored support and personalised learning interventions for pupils requiring additional assistance. The role involves working closely with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, helping to improve their educational outcomes and boost confidence through focused, individual or small group sessions. The position is temporary and part-time, based in Oxfordshire, and offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of inclusive education practises.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition to pupils with special educational needs, adapting teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and requirements.
• Develop and implement personalised learning plans in consultation with school staff, parents, and external professionals.
• Assess and monitor pupil progress, providing regular feedback and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly to ensure effective learning.
• Support pupils in developing key skills including literacy, numeracy, communication, and social interaction.
• Maintain accurate records of sessions, pupil progress, and any behavioural observations.
• Collaborate with teachers, special educational needs coordinators, and other professionals to ensure continuity of support and share best practises.
• Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that encourages pupil engagement and participation.
• Stay informed of current legislation, guidelines, and best practises related to special educational needs and inclusive education.

Required Qualifications

• Relevant teaching qualification or professional certification in education, special educational needs, or a closely related field.
• Evidence of continuing professional development specific to special educational needs.

Education

• A minimum of Level 3 qualification in Education, Child Development, or a related discipline.
• Further qualifications in special educational needs or equivalent training are highly desirable.

Experience

• Proven experience working with children or young people who have special educational needs, preferably within a school or educational setting.
• Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering tailored educational support.
• Experience liaising with educational professionals and parents to support pupil development.

Knowledge and Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of a range of special educational needs and the impact on learning and development.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
• Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and planning.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and encourage pupils.
• Awareness of safeguarding practises and commitment to the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Qualifications

• Qualification in Teaching or a recognised SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) qualification.
• Experience working with specific needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, or Speech and Language difficulties.
• First aid training or equivalent certification related to pupil care.

Working Conditions

• The role is predominantly based within educational settings in Oxfordshire, with occasional travel across the South East region.
• Part-time hours with flexibility to accommodate school timetables and pupil needs.
• Work requires adherence to safeguarding policies and confidentiality at all times.
• Occasional requirement to work outside standard school hours may be necessary to meet pupil needs.
• Work environment is supportive and collaborative, with access to resources and professional development opportunities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
