Location- Penarth

Salary- £92.63/ day

Contract type- Full time

Start date- September 2026

Looking for more than just a classroom role?

Do you have a passion for music production, radio broadcasting, bike maintenance, animal care, creative arts, or hands-on learning? Could you use those interests to inspire young people who need support, encouragement, and someone who genuinely believes in them?

We're recruiting for a SEN Teaching Support Assistant to join an incredible specialist school in Penarth, supporting pupils aged 7-19 with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This isn't your typical classroom support role.

Every day presents opportunities to build meaningful relationships, boost confidence, and help young people discover their strengths through practical, engaging, and personalised learning experiences.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Teaching Support Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and specialist staff to:

✅ Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis

✅ Help learners access education in ways that work for them

✅ Build positive relationships that promote confidence and emotional wellbeing

✅ Support pupils during lessons, workshops, vocational activities, and community-based experiences

✅ Encourage independence, resilience, and life skills

✅ Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed learning environment

What We're Looking For

We're not necessarily looking for someone with years of SEN experience.

We're looking for people who can bring enthusiasm, patience, creativity, and genuine care.

You may be an excellent fit if you have an interest or experience in:

Music Production & Recording

Podcasting, Radio Broadcasting or Media

Bike Maintenance or Mechanics

Animal Care

Creative Arts & Practical Workshops

Sports, Outdoor Learning & Mentoring

Vocational or Hands-On Learning

Whether you've worked in education, youth work, care, coaching, music, creative industries, support work, or community projects, we'd love to hear from you.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A positive, resilient, and adaptable attitude
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A good sense of humour and willingness to get involved
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning
  • Experience supporting children or young people (desirable but not essential)
  • Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • EWC Registration (or willingness to register)
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle

Why This School?

This specialist provision supports around 80 pupils through highly personalised learning programmes designed around individual strengths, interests, and needs.

The school takes a trauma-informed and therapeutic approach, ensuring every learner feels safe, understood, and able to succeed.

What makes this setting truly unique is its commitment to practical, real-world learning. Pupils regularly engage in:

Music production and creative recording projects

️ Radio broadcasting and media activities

Bike maintenance workshops

Animal-based learning opportunities

️ Vocational and practical skills development

These experiences help young people develop confidence, communication skills, independence, and preparation for adulthood.

This Could Be the Role for You If...

You believe that a breakthrough doesn't always happen at a desk.

Sometimes it happens because a young person finally feels listened to.

If you're passionate about helping learners thrive through creativity, practical learning, and genuine connection, we'd love to hear from you.
