Job description

Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant – Waterlooville

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive school in Waterlooville, working within a Year 3 class.

This role is ideal for someone who truly understands how to support children with significant learning difficulties and very weak attainment, and who can confidently adapt learning to meet complex SEN needs. You will be working with pupils who find learning extremely challenging and therefore need an adult who knows what they are doing, can work independently, and uses proven strategies to help children make progress.

Although the post is based in Key Stage 2, strong and recent experience in Key Stage 1 is essential, as many pupils are working well below age-related expectations. Excellent phonics knowledge and the ability to deliver targeted phonics intervention confidently is a non-negotiable requirement.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience supporting children with SEN

  • Is confident working with pupils with very weak literacy skills

  • Has strong KS1 experience, particularly in early reading and phonics

  • Demonstrates excellent phonics knowledge and practice

  • Can work calmly, consistently and proactively with children who struggle to access learning

  • Understands how to adapt tasks, scaffold learning and promote independence

  • Is patient, resilient and committed to helping every child succeed

In return, we offer:

  • A welcoming and supportive school environment

  • Children who benefit greatly from skilled, consistent support

  • A team that values expertise and professional judgement

  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to pupils who need it most

If you are a capable, confident SEN TA who has the skills and experience to support children with complex learning needs, we would very much like to hear from you.
