SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School – September Start

Location: Ashton-under-Lyne (Tameside)
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £89 – £95 per day
Contract: Full-time, term-time only

Are you passionate about supporting students with additional needs and making a positive difference in their educational experience? Teaching Personnel is working with a thriving secondary school in Ashton-under-Lyne to recruit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated inclusion team.

In this role, you will work closely with students with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health). You’ll provide vital 1:1 and small group support, helping students engage with the curriculum and develop both academically and personally.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a passion for inclusion and working with young people who face additional challenges in education.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for students with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans)

  • Assist students with personal development, emotional regulation, and behaviour management

  • Help students access the curriculum through differentiated resources, strategies, and support

  • Work closely with the SENCO, classroom teachers, and other staff to ensure students’ individual needs are met

  • Contribute to planning and implementing interventions that support students’ academic and personal growth

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reviews and reports


Candidate Profile:

  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEND in schools, care, or youth work settings

  • Resilient, empathetic, and patient with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of EHCPs, intervention strategies, or experience using Makaton/PECS is advantageous

  • Passionate about creating inclusive learning environments and supporting students in overcoming barriers to learning

  • Confident in working with young people who may experience emotional, behavioural, or social challenges

  • Ability to remain calm and focused in challenging situations, demonstrating high levels of patience and adaptability

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
