Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant who thrives in a specialist environment? We are recruiting for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant in Sherborne, starting in October 2026, supporting young people with additional needs who benefit from consistency, patience and a positive approach.

This opportunity would suit someone who already has SEND, SEMH or specialist education experience and is confident stepping into a busy setting.

We are looking for somebody who can hit the ground running, build relationships quickly and become a dependable part of the wider team.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to help pupils access learning and make positive progress throughout the school day.

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required.
• Helping pupils remain engaged and involved in their learning.
• Supporting young people with their individual educational and additional needs.
• Promoting positive behaviour, routines and boundaries.
• Building professional and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Working collaboratively with teachers and the wider support team.
• Helping to create a calm, structured and encouraging learning environment.

This is a full-time position, so reliability and a genuine commitment to the pupils you support are essential.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, SEN Support Workers or educators who have previously worked with children or young people with additional needs.

You will need to be resilient, adaptable and confident, with the ability to respond calmly when situations become challenging. Most importantly, you should understand that progress can look different for every young person and be motivated by helping them achieve it.
