Teaching Personnel is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Bovington, Dorset.

This is a full-time position starting in October 2026, with the potential to start earlier for the right person.

We are looking for someone who already has a good understanding of supporting children and young people with special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

This opportunity requires someone confident, resilient and ready to hit the ground running within a busy specialist environment.

What Does the Role Involve?

You will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide pupils with consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.

• Supporting pupils 1:1 and within small groups
• Helping young people remain focused and engaged during lessons
• Responding calmly and professionally to challenging situations
• Supporting emotional regulation and encouraging positive choices
• Adapting classroom activities to suit individual learning needs
• Helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills
• Working collaboratively with teaching, pastoral and SEND colleagues

There is also a paid 20-minute lunch break as part of the working day.

What Experience Are We Looking For?

This role is best suited to someone with previous experience in a SEND school, SEMH provision, alternative provision or specialist education setting.

You will need to be comfortable working with pupils who may find mainstream education challenging and whose behaviour can sometimes communicate an unmet need.

We are looking for somebody who is patient, consistent and emotionally resilient, while still being approachable and able to form appropriate relationships with young people.

Strong safeguarding awareness and the ability to follow school procedures are essential.
