SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role

We are looking to appoint a committed and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Salford from September. This is a full-time, term-time role supporting students, helping them to engage with learning, develop independence, and thrive within a secondary school setting.

You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral teams to provide structured, consistent support tailored to individual student needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students
• Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
• Assist with adapting learning materials to meet individual needs
• Promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement in learning
• Support inclusion within mainstream lessons and targeted interventions
• Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and EHCP outcomes
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff

About You

We are seeking someone who:

• Has experience supporting children or young people with autism and SEN
• Is patient, calm, and resilient, with a genuine passion for SEN support
• Understands the needs of secondary-aged pupils
• Can follow individual support plans and classroom strategies
• Works collaboratively as part of a team
• Is committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing

Desirable (but not essential):

• Previous SEN or secondary school experience
• Understanding of sensory processing needs and behaviour support strategies
• Relevant education, psychology, or child development qualifications
