SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Prescot, Merseyside (L34)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term (potential to go permanent)
Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP or September 2026

A warm, inclusive, and supportive primary setting in the Prescot area is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. The Role

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to support pupils with a range of additional needs. These may include autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning delays, or social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small‑group support for pupils with identified SEN needs.
  • Assist in delivering and adapting learning activities under teacher guidance.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and personal development.
  • Implement strategies from EHCPs, external professionals, or behaviour plans.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with teaching staff and contribute to progress reviews.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children with SEN (school-based or relevant care/support experience).
  • Genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Patience, resilience, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and supportive relationships with pupils.
  • A valid DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
