JOB DESCRIPTION: SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Duties:

  • Supporting the educational, social, and emotional development of children with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Assisting the class teacher in planning and delivering tailored lessons for SEN students
  • Providing one-to-one support to students with learning difficulties
  • Creating and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) for SEN students
  • Helping SEN students to develop their communication and social skills
  • Assisting with classroom management and behaviour support
  • Collaborating with parents, teachers, and other professionals to support the needs of SEN students

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with SEN
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies

Education:

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

Experience:

Previous experience working with children, especially those with special educational needs

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of SEN strategies and interventions
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the needs of individual students
  • Strong communication and listening skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant
  • First Aid certification

This role involves working in a classroom environment with children who have special educational needs. The work may be challenging but rewarding, requiring patience, empathy, and a flexible approach to supporting the diverse needs of students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
