Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Frome this September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dedicated team supporting children and young people with additional needs to achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence and celebrate success, no matter how big or small.

We are looking for someone with previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who is confident, resilient and ready to hit the ground running from the start of the new academic year.

 

About the Role

Working alongside teachers and other professionals, you'll provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, helping to create a positive, structured and engaging learning environment.

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support throughout the school day.
  • Assisting with the delivery of personalised learning activities.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop independence, communication and social skills.
  • Supporting learners with autism, SEMH, ADHD, speech and language needs and moderate learning difficulties.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistency, patience and encouragement.
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and remain engaged with learning.
  • Preparing classroom resources and supporting practical learning activities.
  • Recording observations and sharing progress with teaching staff.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams to ensure pupils receive the highest level of support.
  • Following safeguarding procedures and contributing to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

 

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, adaptable and proactive approach.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with a variety of learning and behavioural needs.
  • A genuine commitment to helping children overcome barriers to education.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to use your own initiative.
  • The experience and confidence to make a positive contribution from day one.

Experience gained within a specialist school, alternative provision, residential setting or similar environment would be highly advantageous.
