Job description

Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant Opportunity – Permanent Position

Do you want to support young people who need guidance, encouragement and positive role models to help them re-engage with education?

A specialist alternative provision in Glastonbury is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their committed team on a full-time permanent basis from September 2026.

About the Provision

This unique setting supports pupils aged 14 to 16 who have experienced barriers within mainstream education.

Many learners have experienced trauma, social and emotional challenges, disrupted education or exclusion.

The school focuses heavily on rebuilding confidence, promoting emotional wellbeing and helping students achieve realistic and meaningful outcomes.

With smaller groups, strong pastoral systems and a relationship-led approach, staff are given the opportunity to genuinely influence a young person’s future.

The Role

You will work closely alongside teachers and pastoral teams to provide classroom support, emotional guidance and practical encouragement to pupils who require patience, consistency and understanding.

The position involves helping learners remain engaged during lessons, promoting emotional regulation, encouraging positive interactions and supporting pupils with both academic and personal development.

Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, structured and nurturing atmosphere where every learner feels respected and understood.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience supporting young people, vulnerable learners or individuals with additional needs.

You should be calm under pressure, adaptable, emotionally resilient and passionate about helping students overcome barriers to education.

A good understanding of trauma-informed practice, behaviour support strategies and relationship-based learning would be highly beneficial.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are equally important.

Why Work Through Teaching Personnel?

Teaching Personnel offers competitive weekly pay, ongoing CPD and specialist SEND training opportunities, dedicated consultant support and access to long-term career progression.

You will also benefit from working within highly rewarding educational environments where your contribution genuinely changes lives.

This permanent opportunity would suit someone seeking a meaningful role where no two days are the same and where positive relationships truly matter.

All applicants will be subject to safeguarding checks and an enhanced DBS clearance.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
