SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Pay: From £92.63 per day

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Cardiff, supporting pupils aged 3-19 years with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
- Complex Medical and Physical Needs
- Communication and Sensory Processing Difficulties
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs, helping them develop independence, communication skills, confidence, and educational outcomes.
As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and support staff to provide individualised support tailored to each pupil's needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with Autism (ASD) and complex learning difficulties within the classroom.
- Delivering 1:1 support and small group interventions.
- Using visual timetables, communication aids and structured learning approaches.
- Supporting pupils with sensory processing needs and emotional regulation.
- Implementing behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies.
- Encouraging independence, social development and engagement in learning.
- Supporting personal care routines with dignity and respect.
- Assisting with feeding and mealtime programmes where required.
This role involves supporting pupils with a range of physical disabilities and medical needs. Responsibilities may include:
- Moving and handling in line with training and risk assessments.
- Supporting wheelchair users and pupils with mobility difficulties.
- Assisting with hoisting and positioning where appropriate.
- Supporting pupils with conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, respiratory conditions and other complex health needs.
- Following healthcare plans under the guidance of trained professionals.
- Working collaboratively with nurses, therapists and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing.
We Are Looking For People Who:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism (ASD).
- Are patient, resilient and compassionate.
- Feel confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and complex needs.
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
- Hold a Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant support work experience (desirable but not essential).
