Teaching Assistant – Specialist Additional Needs Base
Secondary School, Cardiff
Start Date: 3rd November 2025 – End of Academic Year (July 2026)
Full Time | Monday to Friday | 08:15 – 15:15
Potential for Contract Extension
Pay rate: £90 daily.
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with additional learning needs? A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Cardiff is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their Specialist Additional Needs Base on a full-time basis.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners with a range of complex needs, including:
- Global Developmental Delay
- Down Syndrome
- ADHD
- Emotional and behavioural needs
- Physical and medical needs
- Moderate to severe learning difficulties
About the Role:
You will work closely with a small group of learners, most of whom are working at a primary-level ability, despite being in secondary school. You will be expected to support pupils both in small group settings and on a 1:1 basis, helping them access a differentiated curriculum up to GCSE level, depending on individual needs.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children or young people with complex additional needs, including physical and medical needs.
- Understands the challenges faced by learners with cognitive, emotional, and behavioural differences.
- Is calm, patient, and resilient in the face of challenging behaviours or unexpected situations.
- Can collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
- Is confident in providing personal care and medical assistance when required (training will be provided if needed).
- Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive education practices.
Essential Requirements:
- Relevant experience in a similar role or setting (school, healthcare, support services).
- Ability to support learning across a range of subjects, adapting resources where necessary.
- A valid DBS (or willingness to obtain one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
