Teaching Assistant – SEMH Secondary Provision
Bury | Cambian Group

We are currently seeking committed and resilient Teaching Assistants to work within a specialist SEMH secondary environment in the Bury area.

In this role, you will support classroom teachers in engaging and educating young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. Your support will play an important part in helping pupils re-engage with learning and progress toward future mainstream placements, specialist pathways or training opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Teacher in delivering meaningful and engaging lessons for students with additional behavioural or emotional needs.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships to promote confidence and wellbeing.
  • Help maintain a structured, safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Support pupils individually or in small groups to access learning and develop key social and emotional skills.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people in any capacity (youth work, mentoring, care, sports coaching, etc.).
  • Full availability Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm during term time.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, patient and supportive approach.

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Experience working with Secondary-aged pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • A proactive, resilient and hard-working attitude.
  • Background in education, SEN or care settings.

Vetting & Compliance

This role requires standard safer recruitment checks, including:

  • Two years of employment references.
  • Safeguarding training (can be provided).
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
