About the Role

Teaching Personnel are seeking a resilient, patient, and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join a Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Manchester City Centre. This specialist provision supports pupils who have been removed from mainstream education due to persistent behavioural challenges and complex SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, including ADHD, attachment disorders, trauma, and anxiety. These pupils require tailored support to re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.


Essential Requirements

  • Team Teach certification (up to date)
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (Willingness to obtain one)
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs or in alternative provisions
  • Strong behaviour management skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A nurturing, empathetic approach with a commitment to inclusion

Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant in a PRU, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, adapting strategies to meet individual requirements.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour management plans and de-escalation techniques in line with Team Teach principles.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to ensure consistent support for pupils.
  • Promote engagement in learning through creative and flexible approaches tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour incidents, and emotional wellbeing, reporting to senior staff as required.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and supportive environment that fosters trust and respect.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
