Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEMH Primary School

Location: Manchester City Centre
Contract: Full-time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience


About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a vibrant SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) primary school in Manchester City Centre. This setting supports pupils with a range of SEMH needs, including anxiety, attachment difficulties, ADHD, and challenging behaviours. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and emotionally.


Essential Requirements

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience
  • Up-to-date Team Teach certification
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs in a primary setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a nurturing approach

Key Responsibilities

As an SEMH HLTA, you will:

  • Deliver planned lessons and interventions in line with teacher guidance, adapting strategies to meet individual SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interactions.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques effectively, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Work closely with the SENCO and class teachers to create personalised learning plans.
  • Lead small group sessions focusing on literacy, numeracy, and social skills development.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and contributing to EHCP reviews.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive ethos that encourages engagement and confidence in learning.
