Specialist SEN Teacher required for School in Leeds

Teaching Personnel are currently working with an all age (2-19) specialist provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs.  This includes pupils with severe and complex needs and an increasing majority of pupils with an autistic spectrum condition. The school are looking to appoint an experienced SEN Teacher to join their team in September 2020, initially on a temporary basis until July 2021, with an opportunity to apply for a permanent post following a successful probationary period.

Applications are welcome from teachers from mainstream, specialist or LA backgrounds.  The ability to really make a difference and putting our children’s need first will be key to adapting your skills to meet our high expectations.

Training or experience in the following would be beneficial but not essential:

  • Makaton
  • Picture Exchange Communication (PECs)
  • BSL (to any level)

You will have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them. You will have the ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues and parents/carers and to communicate  promptly and effectively with parents and carers, conveying timely and relevant information about attainment, objectives, progress and well-being.

Essential Criteria:

  • Ability to teach engaging and motivating lessons informed by well-grounded expectations of learners and designed to raise levels of attainment
  • Good, up-to-date working knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential
  • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant statutory and non-statutory curriculum and frameworks, including those provided through the National Strategies, subjects/curriculum areas and other relevant initiatives across age and ability ranges

Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework is essential. You must know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
