SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) – Tooting
Location: Tooting, South West London
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term / Potentially for the full academic year
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Tooting is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.
About the Role
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider support team to provide tailored support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating a positive and nurturing learning environment while helping the pupil achieve their individual targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with SEN
- Supporting the child's academic progress and emotional wellbeing
- Assisting the pupil in accessing classroom activities and routines
- Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement, and independence
- Implementing strategies set out by the class teacher and SENCo
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and parents where appropriate
- Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

What We're Looking For
- Proven SEN experience within a school or educational setting
- Experience providing 1:1 support for children with additional needs
- Knowledge of supporting pupils with needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language difficulties
- A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- A proactive and reliable attitude
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
