Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive specialist primary school in Bury. This welcoming setting caters for children aged 3–11 years with a range of complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about inclusive education and committed to helping children achieve their full potential. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils to develop their communication, independence, social skills, and overall wellbeing within a nurturing learning environment.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to provide personalised support that enables pupils to access learning and make meaningful progress. Every day will be different, offering rewarding opportunities to positively impact the lives of children with complex learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and ASD
- Support the delivery of personalised learning programmes in line with EHCP outcomes
- Adapt learning activities to meet a range of communication, sensory, and developmental needs
- Use alternative communication approaches, including PECS, Makaton, visual schedules, and sensory resources
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, de-escalation strategies, and relationship-based practice
- Assist with sensory, play-based, and experiential learning activities
- Encourage independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day
- Support pupils with personal care requirements, including feeding, toileting, mobility, and changing where necessary
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly PMLD, SLD, or ASD
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Resilience and confidence when supporting pupils with complex needs
- A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to individual pupil requirements
- Commitment to a full-time, long-term position
- Comfortable providing personal care support where required
Desirable
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication systems
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or SEN-related training
- Experience working within a specialist educational setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
