SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time | Yeovil Area | September 2025 Start 

Are you a patient, empathetic, and motivated individual with a passion for supporting young people facing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges? A highly supportive and forward-thinking school near Yeovil is looking for a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team in September 2025, with the possibility of an earlier start for the right candidate.

This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same, and your support will make a genuine difference in the lives of students aged 11 to 18.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional emotional or behavioural support to engage positively in their education. Working alongside teachers, pastoral leads, and therapists, you will help implement personalised strategies to build pupils' confidence, resilience, and readiness to learn.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs

  • Build strong, trusting relationships to support behaviour and engagement

  • Assist with the implementation of EHCP strategies and tailored interventions

  • Collaborate with teaching staff and external professionals

  • Promote emotional wellbeing, positive routines, and independent learning

  • Help create a calm and structured learning environment

 

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs

  • Is calm under pressure, patient, and resilient

  • Can build strong, respectful relationships with students

  • Understands trauma-informed and person-centred approaches

  • Is passionate about inclusion and making education accessible for all

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
