SEMH Teaching Assistant (Male Support Role) – Secondary
Location: Skelmersdale
Start Date: January
Contract: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent

We are currently seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Skelmersdale, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated challenging behaviour.

This role is offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis, providing an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to secure a long-term position within a supportive and well-structured school environment.

The Role:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs

  • Supporting behaviour regulation, emotional resilience, and engagement in learning

  • Acting as a positive male role model, supporting pupils who benefit from consistent, strong relational support

  • Implementing behaviour strategies and following individual behaviour support plans

  • Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals

  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, including during unstructured times

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has experience working with SEMH, behaviour, or challenging pupils (education, youth work, care, or similar settings)

  • Is calm, resilient, and confident when managing challenging behaviour

  • Can build strong, consistent relationships with secondary-aged pupils

  • Is patient, reliable, and emotionally robust

  • Understands the importance of boundaries, routine, and trauma-informed practice

  • A background in education, youth work, sports coaching, care, or mentoring is highly desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
