SEMH Teaching Assistant (Male Support Role) – Secondary
Location: Skelmersdale
Start Date: January
Contract: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent
We are currently seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Skelmersdale, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated challenging behaviour.
This role is offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis, providing an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to secure a long-term position within a supportive and well-structured school environment.
The Role:

Providing 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs

Supporting behaviour regulation, emotional resilience, and engagement in learning

Acting as a positive male role model, supporting pupils who benefit from consistent, strong relational support

Implementing behaviour strategies and following individual behaviour support plans

Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals
-
Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, including during unstructured times
The Ideal Candidate:
-
Has experience working with SEMH, behaviour, or challenging pupils (education, youth work, care, or similar settings)

Is calm, resilient, and confident when managing challenging behaviour
-
Can build strong, consistent relationships with secondary-aged pupils
-
Is patient, reliable, and emotionally robust
-
Understands the importance of boundaries, routine, and trauma-informed practice
-
A background in education, youth work, sports coaching, care, or mentoring is highly desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
