SEMH Teaching Assistant
Teaching Personnel are recruiting dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to work within SEMH settings across East Lancashire and Darwen. We have ad hoc and temp-to-perm opportunities available for the right candidates.
You will be supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, often alongside additional needs such as autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils within an SEMH setting
• Support learning, behaviour management, and emotional regulation
• Assist with personal care where required
• Implement behaviour support plans and individual education plans (IEPs)
• Promote positive relationships, consistency, and inclusion within the classroom
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and SENCOs
The Ideal Candidate:
• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour (school, care, residential, or youth work backgrounds welcomed)
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Confidence supporting challenging behaviour and de-escalation strategies
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
